Associate Professor Aidong Lu, Ph.D., with the College of Computing and Informatics’ (CCI) Department Computer Science, is the Principal Investigator on a mixed reality environment for enabling everywhere data-centric research project in collaboration with the University of Tennessee.  Simply put, this infrastructure project will develop an open source software toolkit, called OpenMR, to support building "mixed reality" data analysis systems that project data into the physical world using a new class of display devices such as Microsoft Hololens and Oculus Rift, 3D-goggles.

College of Computing and Informatics professor in the Department of Computer Science, Min Shin, Ph.D., is part of the collaborative effort involving UNC Charlotte along with the University of Arizona and UC Santa Barbara. 

“Biologists are taking lots of videos of the movement of cells to address important biological problems,” said Dr. Shin.  “The problem is the current analysis of the cell movement can only be done manually and is very time consuming.  So that is where we come in.”
